Tirupati:

Police in Andhra Pradesh have filed rape charges against a 51-year old pastor in Chittoor district after some villagers accused him of sexually attacking a 12-year girl Sept. 4 night.

The incident in Kuravakaluva village of Renigunta block came to light next morning, when the village women complained to police.

The complaint said Panneer Selvam, the pastor of small church in the village, took the girl to an open place near the church and violated her. The girl comes from a very poor family in the village.

A woman, not wishing to be identified, saw the incident and immediately alerted her fellow village women. They rushed to the spot and overpowered the middle aged pastor. They tied him to a wooden post and thrashed him.

Later in the night, higher-ups of the church in Renigunta took away Panneer Selvam from the village. On Sept. 5 morning, as the parents of the girl were afraid to go the police, some women took initiative and lodged a complaint with Gajulamandyam Police Station.

When contacted, police officials said case has been registered and investigation is under progress.
