Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Jan 9 lauded the role of the Varapuzha Archdiocese in the development of Kerala society, its language, and literature.
Inaugurating the official reception accorded to new Archbishop Dr. Joseph Kalathiparambil and outgoing Archbishop Dr. Francis Kallarakal by the Kochi Corporation, the Chief Minister said the Varapuzha Archdiocese — one of the oldest archdioceses in Kerala, had played a crucial role in the development of the State, and that there were innumerable examples of the contributions of the Catholic Church to the well-being of people.
“Priests should become links in the chain of friendship between people of different communities. This was a message sent out by Pope Francis, whose message of love has been received well by people across the world,” Mr. Vijayan said.
The Chief Minister also extended his wishes to both the new incumbent and outgoing archbishops and exhorted them to continue with their good work.
Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, who spoke on the occasion, expressed hope that both the bishops would continue to play big roles in society.
